Dreaming of Italy

As far as dream vacations are concerned, Italy has been at the top of my “rainbow” list for as long as I can remember. Movies like Under the Tuscan Sun have only intensified the unsated desire to explore this beautiful countryside. There’s something immensely enticing about a country so rich in history, ancient ruins, artistic expression, food, wineries, and breathtaking surroundings.

In anticipation of what is bound to be a photographer and foodie’s delight, I’ve begun planning my Italian adventures. I have to start planning somewhere right? So why not begin in the Eternal City of Rome.

First item on my agenda, where to stay. Since this is my dream trip, I’m shooting for the stars. My lodging checklist? Something cozy, inviting, and containing a dash of history. Something with a view of the city, close to must-see attractions, Wi-Fi, and an welcoming ambiance that exudes relaxation. Ready for the adventure? Here we go….

The first location blew my mind! I mean, how heady would it be to stay at an Inn that boasts 2,000 year old Roman relics contained within its walls! Seriously! That’s what’s found at the Inn at the Roman Forum! What an amazing way to kick off my travels by staying at an inn housed with ancient ruins.

In addition to the Crypto Portico stone gallery of ruins, the Inn comes replete with 5-star service, rooms/suites/family floor available, a peaceful roof terrace to relax and drink in the views of Roman history while sipping on an exotic drink, all within steps of sightseeing draws like the Colosseum and Roman Forums. And of course, after a full day of deliriously exploring, being able to soak away my tired feet and achy muscles in one of the suites’ Jacuzzi bathtubs sounds simply divine! The Inn also offers free Wi-Fi, coffee & tea facilities, air conditioning, mini-bar, safe deposit box, sitting areas, microwave and more, depending on the room. Definitely on my possibilities list! Check out the gallery here: http://www.theinnattheromanforum.com/en/default.html

Next is Hotel Barocco, centrally located to local treasures such as Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, the Colossuem, Roman Forums, and the Vatican. The rooms and suites appear warm and inviting with an elegant golden-toned décor and embracing feel. With complimentary breakfast and wireless internet, I can eat before I head out and stay connected while lounging. The marble bathrooms beckon the weary traveler (that’s me), washing off the day’s dust, then indulgently slipping into the room’s provided robe and slippers. Rooms vary in size from classic rooms to suites to an entire annex. On my rooms’ wishlist is the Junior Suite Terrace, which offers a view of piazza Barberini and the Triton Fountain, a large terrace, and outdoor bathtub, if so inclined. Sweet! Finally, The Inn at Spanish Steps, is an 18th century gem located on the Via dei Condotti in the heart of the historic center. Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon are nearby for easy touring. The stately Inn displays exquisite period décor while offering modern comforts, including A/C. a complimentary laptop computer for use during my stay, concierge services, and a rooftop terrace with breathtaking views.

Am personally in love with their photos of the Senior Suite located on the Penthouse level. The suite is bathed in royal purples and plums touched with a breath of gold. Exquisite! The marble accentuated bathroom comes equipped with a walk-in shower and sumptuous Jacuzzi tub. I’m envisioning an evening leisurely sipping prosecco wine, soothing in a frothy bubble bath in the Jacuzzi tub, and then gingerly wrapping up in one of the room’s supple bathrobes. Aaaaaah! And for the history buff in me, a notable perk – Hans Christian Andersen once resided in this luxurious guest-house! Sounds like a surreal and dreamy experience! Now remember, this is not by any means an all-inclusive list and there are a cornucopia of amazing accommodations in the area. These were the ones that caught my eye, and I’m still on the lookout for my dream vacation and stay. In fact, I’d love to hear any of your discoveries and see any pics you might have.
